It is the goal of BPT to support the body’s innate healing ability on both the physical level and the subtle (energy) level.
Understanding Dis-ease and Healing
Some illnesses or symptoms have an obvious cause. Other times, a seemingly minor trigger unexpectedly sets off a cascade of symptoms. We naturally accumulate the effects of stress and illness as we live, and if our bodies can’t quite keep up, we eventually overfill our wellness/sickness bucket. One last straw can suddenly reveal what has long been accumulating.
Thankfully, our bodies are wonderful healing machines, and we take much of it for granted! Healing is an innate ability; sometimes we just need a little help.
Consider a familiar example from allopathic medicine: if you break your arm and get a cast, over a few weeks, the arm heals. But the cast doesn’t heal the body, the body heals the body. The cast is a tool that medicine uses to help the body do its job.
Complementary wellness practices like BPT aim to function in a similar way as does a cast: by supporting the body in what it does naturally.
If you break your arm and get a cast, the cast doesn’t heal the body.
The body heals the body.
Why magnets?
Because we work with both the physical and the energetic bodies, the magnets are intended to have both physical and energetic effects. Similar to acupuncture, BPT aims to harness the body’s physical healing capacity and optimally direct the flow of the body’s essential energy.
Our bodies rely on electric signals that travel between cells, sending information and causing movement, both on a cellular level and a muscular level. Sometimes, the polarities within cells can get off-kilter, due to inputs from our environment such as lack of nutrients, presence or influence of pathogens, energetic imbalances, or emotions.
Take, for example, a dehydration headache: re-hydrating with an electrolyte drink often alleviates the symptom more effectively than re-hydrating with plain water does, because the salts that conduct the body’s electrical signals need to be replenished in order for the system to function smoothly again.
The application of strong hand-held neodymium magnets, placed in pairs in specific locations on the body in accordance with what is out of balance, aims to support the body in restoring optimal cellular polarity or changing the pH of certain tissue to make it inhospitable to pathogens. Depending on the imbalances at play, the magnet placement may carry an energetic resonance that neutralizes the resonance of the imbalance. Magnet placement may also be aimed at directing the immune system’s resources to center on a certain imbalance.
What is muscle testing?
The information about what is out of balance and where to place magnets is gleaned by reading the body’s reflexive movements. Reflexes are a primary defense against immediate danger; when we touch a hot stove, we don’t pause to think before jerking our hand away. Through the practice of applied kinesiology (muscle testing,) we can tap into the body’s instinctive knowledge to determine what, within the body, is presenting danger.
Muscle testing is an ancient technique; its most common applications today in western medicine are by chiropractors, naturopaths, and other providers who take a holistic approach to wellness and healing. Muscle testing is a holistic method of communication with the body, not a diagnostic test.

The original biomagnetism protocol was developed by Dr. Isaac Goiz in 1988, and provides a broad and somewhat surface level approach to healing support.
The Lyme Magnetic Protocol (LMP) and Post Covid Protocol (PCP) are very deep dives into specific imbalances and pathogen-influenced states of dis-ease. By getting deeper into the “layers” of illness, LMP and PCP can often yield better results than the original protocol by helping the body address root causes that may themselves have gone undetected or unnoticed. The healing the body is able to do with the support of LMP and PCP may therefor be deeper and longer lasting than if only the original protocol were applied.
-Dr. Lydia Knutson
“If you give the body a nudge in the right direction, it can heal itself.”
LMP was developed by Joan Randall.

It originally aimed to provide magnet placements that resonated with clients who had symptoms of Lyme Disease and other tick-borne illnesses. The placements now in LMP have expanded to include many other resonating imbalances, such as those associated with symptoms of Mold sensitivity, Epstein Barr Virus, Cytomeglavirus, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS,) connective tissue instability, and more. See more in FAQ’s.
Most recently, Joan has developed the Post Covid Protocol to support the body in recovery from symptoms that may linger after a covid-19 infection or adverse vaccine response. This is an evolving protocol that continues to grow.
Biomagnetics is compatible with most forms of concurrent support and medical treatment. Learn more here.
